No shame. No pressure. No camera required.
A free national programme
Los Angeles, California – 9th March 2026. Stop Betting Sports today announced the launch of a free gambling prevention and support programme available virtually across the United States.
Developed by licensed clinicians who have witnessed first-hand the financial and mental health consequences of sports betting on individuals and families, the programme provides practical guidance on treatment options, prevention tools for people seeking to abstain from betting, and a safe, confidential and anonymous space for those affected by gambling-related harm.
The clinicians behind Stop Betting Sports, Dan Field, LCSW, and Deborah Buhaj, ASW, bring extensive clinical experience treating gambling-related issues. They created the structured, no-cost programme in response to the growing impact of sports betting and the need for accessible early intervention.
Five ways to take part
Sunday Morning Take a Pause: a weekly open session inviting participants to commit to not gambling for the day, learn about gambling addiction and consider a one-week time out.
Take a Time Out: a structured one-week programme with daily motivational text messages and a personalised timer that tracks time away from gambling.
Stop Betting Sports University: free online educational modules covering compulsive behaviour, brain health, money psychology and pathways to recovery.
Chat with Dan: a weekly educational and supportive webinar for parents, partners and loved ones concerned about someone’s sports betting behaviour.
Half Time Group: a Wednesday evening space for people taking part in the one-week programme to connect, ask questions and receive non-judgemental support.
Anonymous and accessible by design
All Stop Betting Sports programming is available anonymously. Participants can use private usernames, and cameras are optional to support comfort and confidentiality.
Stop Betting Sports is independent, clinician-led and not funded by the gambling industry. The programme focuses on practical education, evidence-informed prevention and clear pathways to further help when therapy or specialist treatment is needed.
“At its core, Stop Betting Sports provides awareness, education and prevention tools for gambling addiction through a free, virtual programme. After decades of working with individuals and families affected by gambling addiction, I have seen the importance of early intervention.” – Dan Field, Founder and Co-Creator
